About Us
A studio built for
considered thinking
Linden Studio was founded in Penang with one quiet conviction: that better household decisions begin with better thinking tools, not better advice.
โ Back to HomeOur Story
From a notebook
to a studio
Linden Studio grew out of a series of informal kitchen-table evenings in Bayan Lepas. The founder, a long-time facilitator of reflective learning circles, noticed that many couples and individuals in Penang wanted space to think through household money questions โ not to receive answers, but to practise asking better ones.
What started as a borrowed meeting room and a hand-printed prompt deck gradually became a recognised workshop offering. In 2022, Linden Studio opened its current venue in Persiaran Mahsuri, a quiet room lined with bookshelves and natural light, designed to feel nothing like a classroom or a bank.
Today, Linden Studio runs three programmes โ a single-evening workshop, a six-week decision literacy track, and a twelve-month reflection programme โ each built around the same paper-first, unhurried philosophy that has guided the studio from the start.
Our Mission
Tools, not answers
"We believe that the quality of a household's decisions depends more on the quality of the conversation than on the quality of the advice. Our work is to improve the conversation."
โ Studio Founding Statement, 2020
At Linden Studio, we hold firmly to the view that education and advice are different things โ and that conflating the two does people a disservice. Our workshops are educational. Facilitators guide participants through structured exercises; they do not recommend specific courses of action or comment on individual circumstances.
This distinction matters to us because it shapes the kind of room our workshops create: one where participants feel safe to think out loud without worrying that they are being judged, sold to, or redirected.
The People
Who runs the studio
Nadia Razif
Lead Facilitator & Founder
Nadia has spent fifteen years designing reflective learning programmes across Malaysia. She founded Linden Studio after observing how rarely people had structured space to explore financial decisions without pressure.
Kelvin Loh
Workshop Facilitator
Kelvin facilitates the six-week and annual track sessions. His background in adult education and community facilitation shapes the studio's emphasis on peer reflection and small-group dynamics.
Suraya Tan
Programme & Materials Designer
Suraya designs all printed materials โ worksheets, prompt decks, and companion booklets. She brings a background in graphic facilitation and a meticulous attention to how layout shapes the thinking process.
How We Work
Standards we hold
to every session
Educational Boundary, Always
Linden Studio maintains a clear and consistent distinction between education and advice in every session. Facilitators are trained to guide reflection without directing decisions. This boundary is non-negotiable.
Private and Confidential Sessions
What participants discuss in sessions stays within the room. No notes, recordings, or personal details from workshop exercises are retained or shared. Participant data collected during registration is handled under our Privacy Policy.
Facilitator Training Standards
All facilitators hold backgrounds in adult learning or facilitation methodology. Before leading sessions, they complete an internal orientation covering the studio's educational philosophy, facilitation boundaries, and participant care practices.
Reviewed Programme Materials
All worksheets and prompt decks are reviewed before each intake cycle. Materials are updated to reflect current research in reflective practice and behavioural decision-making literacy.
Small Group Size Commitment
We cap workshop attendance so that the room remains quiet and usable. Participants are not lost in a crowd. Every intake has a maximum number of places, and once full, waitlists are operated with clear communication.
Inclusive and Non-Judgmental Space
Sessions are designed to feel accessible regardless of a participant's prior experience, income level, or household structure. The studio does not assume, compare, or judge. All exercises are self-directed.
Our Approach
Decision-making as a learnable skill
Linden Studio works from the premise that the way people structure a decision โ the questions they ask, the order in which they consider them, the way they weigh values against practicalities โ can be practised and improved. This is not a novel idea in the research on behavioural decision-making, but it is rarely put into accessible workshop form for everyday household use.
The paper-based approach Linden Studio uses is deliberate. Research in reflective practice consistently shows that physical writing โ pen moving on paper โ engages different cognitive processes than typing or speaking. Worksheets slow the thinking down and make it visible. A decision mapped on paper can be reviewed, revised, set aside, and returned to. It holds still.
For couples, the shared worksheet becomes a neutral object in the conversation. Both partners look at the same page rather than at each other. This simple shift changes the dynamic: the decision is the subject, not the other person's opinion of it.
Linden Studio's programmes are based in Penang and are designed for residents of the island and surrounding area. Sessions are held in the evening at the Bayan Lepas studio, keeping the barrier to attendance low for those who work full-time. The studio is accessible from Bayan Lepas, Gelugor, Jelutong, Sungai Ara, and surrounding areas within a short drive.
